Paddock Art Studios in Artwave 2026
Artwave is the opportunity for the Paddock to show the range of creative activities on offer at Paddock Art Studios. There are five studios to visit:

Rowena Williams Paddock Studio Pottery
I work in stoneware clay to produce a range of domestic ware that is inspired by the coastline of Sussex. I also make one-off pieces using the Raku firing technique. Both will be available to see and/or buy at Paddock Art Studios this
Artwave. Pottery taster sessions and day courses are available.

Lewes Mosaic Makers
We are a small group of enthusiastic mosaic makers meeting throughout the year to share our love of all things mosaic. We have a creative and experimental approach, a mixture of traditional mosaic techniques and repurposing old china and tile. If you are interested in discovering more, and a place is available, you can try a drop-in session for a small fee. Nicole will also be exhibiting collage and abstract mixed media work.

Peter Messer
I live in Lewes, and have worked in the Paddock Studios for many years. I have paintings in collections in Belgium, France, Germany, Holland, Spain, Norway, Sweden and the US, as well as the UK. My paintings are mostly on a domestic scale, resolutely figurative and, by implication, narrative. I paint in the historic medium of egg tempera which I prepare in the studio using egg yolk and raw pigment. I hope that these are intent and watchful paintings which, for all their quiet ‘realism’, demonstrate that the unseen exists and has properties. It seems that I work in a world sensed by many but frequently ignored or overlooked. I hope I can help to remind them.

Claire Mumford, Printmaker
Claire works from the print studio on the ground floor at the Paddock. She makes prints using linocut, woodcut, collagraph and monotype methods. Claire also makes cyanotype (solar) prints. Her work often has a narrative element.

Paddock Members’ Exhibition
Every year during Artwave the main studio at the Paddock is transformed into a gallery to show work by our members. Last year there were over 100 works by 40 artists on show. The exhibition shows the range and quality of the creative activity at the studios: paintings, drawings, prints and sculpture. Much of the work will be for sale.
